Third Wave's Innovation Showcase

Reducing Titanium Cycle Time While Maintaining Tool Life

Presented in Partnership with Polamer Precision.

New Britain, CT | February 19, 2026 | 10am - 3pm

This event is in person and will be followed by a networking happy hour.

About the Event

At every Innovation Showcase you’ll see the future of machining right before your eyes. Innovation Showcases are partner-led, in-person technology demonstrations designed to show how manufacturers can solve real machining challenges faster and with less trial-and-error.

You’ll see a real-world scenario, the approach used to improve outcomes, and the practical takeaways your team can apply.

The Machining Challenge

The challenge we’re tackling:
Roughing a split case made from Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) requires pushing material removal rates in a metal that is inherently difficult to machine. Increasing cutting aggressiveness can quickly lead to excessive heat and tool wear, yet cycle time pressures demand exactly that.

Why it matters:
If not addressed deliberately, this challenge can lead to lost profit, missed delivery targets, excessive trial-and-error testing, and in some cases additional capital investment to meet production demand.

What you’ll see demonstrated:

  • How AdvantEdge is used to evaluate tool wear while exploring higher material removal rates
  • How cutting conditions are selected based on wear behavior and thermal considerations
  • How the programmed toolpath is then analyzed and optimized in Production Module
  • How cutting conditions are selected based on wear behavior, thermal considerations and chip formation
  • How simulation and targeted machine trials work together to reduce unnecessary testing

More technical depth will be shared during the session for those who want it, but the primary focus is practical decision-making and outcomes.

What You’ll Gain

Attendees will see how simulation can be used to evaluate roughing strategies in titanium before committing to extensive machine trials. The session will focus on how teams can explore higher material removal rates while understanding the tradeoffs between cycle time, tool life, and cost.

Why this matters…
This approach helps manufacturers make more confident process decisions earlier, reduce excessive trial-and-error testing, and improve productivity without needing to add machines or compromise part quality.
